Maple Park in Wagoner will be the location of a March 8 Block Party for interested persons in becoming a foster parent.
Oklahoma Fosters will host the event from 4-6 p.m. at the south gazebo. “It’s not Luck, It’s Love — Be a Forever Difference” is the theme of the gathering.
Organizers say there will be free hotdogs, live music, inflatables and much more.
Beth Passmore, foster care and adoption recruiter with Oklahoma Fosters, said there are dozens of foster homes in Wagoner County.
“We look good in terms of kids in custody and homes, but it’s in the surrounding areas of Muskogee and Tulsa Counties where the need is much greater. Some of those kids come here for placement.”
To help fill that gap, Oklahoma Fosters is holding a statewide call to action each quarter to raise awareness to the foster program. Thursday’s block party in Wagoner is the first for Oklahoma Fosters to bring to the county.
“We will have some giveaways, thanks to some generous donors in the community, and have folks speak a little about the need for foster families and how to get involved,” Passmore said.
Anyone interested in helping meet this need is invited and encouraged to attend.
